One thing that I find fascinating and interesting about the book Contact, is how the world changes when they discover extra terrestrial life. All of the nations in the world come together and work as a team to achieve their goal, build the machine. War turns to peace, religious contradictions turns into understanding, etc. Sure, there is still some political agendas, but not as much.
I like this thought, and that is also how I think the world will turn out in a couple of centuries. That we are all people of earth, and should stand together as people of earth. In the infinity of the universe, with probably (at least I think so) thousands of civilisations, who cares if you believe in the protestant or the catholic version of God. All the problems here on earth just seems so puny and insignificant when you think of the big picture.
The reason I choose the title “Space – The Final Frontier” for this text, is that it comes from the sci-fi series Star Trek. In that world, a thousand years into the future, the universe is being explored by mankind and new extra-terrestrials is found very often. This future world reflects what the world in Contact is heading for, and also our own real world. In that world man doesn't introduce themselves as an American or a Swede, he or she is from the planet Earth, where there is peace and equality.
That is a world that I'm longing for, although I don't think I will ever get to experience it. Because the only thing that will really join all the people on earth is the fact that there is other civilisations out there. I think only then will we be able to think in a bigger perspective and stop to focus on idiotic things. We have to cross the final frontier.

My thoughts on Story of Stuff.
Yet again someone is telling us that we destroy the world and that we have to change our lives. I'm getting sick and tired of all those lectures. However, the thing is, although I don't like it we still need these kinds of videos. So it's not that I don't like the video, it's just that I'm getting tired of people who never change and that we still have to produce and lecture people about this. There have been talk for many years now how you can help and save the environment, just by doing small things like take the bus or turn off the lamp. But still people doesn't learn! And I can't understand how it can be so hard for the knowledge to get into some people's heads.
Even thou the video was well produced and she says some interesting things, I can't help to wonder if it's all true, how much can you trust her? I always think that when someone tries to influence others with their opinions that they modify or present all the facts, so it always seems like they are the “good guys”. Like the part in the video about the computer, she says that you HAVE to buy a new computer after a couple of years because a tiny little part is out of date. It's a very simple task to change any component in a computer and it doesn't require a lot of knowledge, and by doing so you don't have to buy a new computer, you can just change some parts when you think it's necessary and keep your computer for many years.
Another thing I didn't like about this video was that she didn't present any sources to her facts, we just have to accept that what she is saying is the truth. I haven't had the time yet to look around on her web page to see if there are any sources there, so feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.
OK, a lot of complaints about the video right now, but to summarize: although there were some things that I didn't quite accept it's still a good video with an important message. But it just sucks that when we are close to the end of 2009 that videos like these still have to be produced. Why can't people learn sometime?

Blog assignment 1
My thoughts on the article Snooping bosses.
This article takes up an important and interesting subject, and my opinions are split about what I think, what is right and what is wrong. Personally I want to protect my own interests and what I do with my personal life. On the other hand I can totally understand that the boss of a company wants control of his or hers employees and that they are actually working when they are at the workplace.
Put yourself in the boss's situation. You always have to stay in top of the competition, it's your fault if it goes bad for the company and you got a lot of employees that depend on you that they will get their salary at the end of the month.
I think it’s understandable and also in the boss's full rights to control that people are working, as long as they separate the surveillance and know the difference between work life and private life. If I had a boss who “googled” my name and found some stuff about me that didn't fit into his/hers vision of the perfect employee and brought that to my attention, then I would consider to leave that job.
However, if the boss came and talked to me and said “I saw that you were surfing to Facebook today at 2 pm and then at 3 pm you spent half an hour watching movies on Youtube”, I would apologize and promise that it wouldn't happen again. Because when I'm at work I get paid for doing my job, if I could get paid for my private surfing I would be happy but the world doesn't work that way.
So to conclude, people have to stop whining that they are being watched when they are working, and just be happy that they actually have a job. If you don't like it, there is one very simple solution, don't do private stuff during working hours. I think that you can wait until you get home before you send that email to your mom, or poke your love interest on Facebook. And to the bosses that watch their workers even after work hours, spying on their personal life, you're just pathetic and got too much spare time.
